In March of 2021, while riding Amtrak 79 to Charlotte, I caught a quick glimpse of what I believed to be a sign and post fenced in behind a business in Kannapolis, NC. A few days later, I went to check in person and sure enough, there was what looked to be a left-over clearance post from a long-abandoned spur. I eventually had the opportunity to stop by while they were open, and after talking with the property owner to explain what I was after, he happily agreed to allow me to remove the post from the ground. At first, I removed only the sign to complete the restoration, but I eventually returned and removed the post. This picture was taken before removing the post with the restored sign in place giving a great visual of what it may have looked like in its prime. |
